Sequana Central Park becomes sun safe in time for Summer
Sequana Central Park is set to become sun safe thanks to a collaborative arrangement between Villawood Properties and Logan City Council.
Shade sails will be installed over the popular park during the month of September, helping to keep the play equipment cooler and lessen exposure to sunlight and UV radiation while families enjoy the facilities.
Villawood Properties constructed and opened the Central Park in September 2021. The park was handed over as an asset to Logan City Council in 2022. Following handover, Villawood Properties approached Logan City Council to seek approval to construct shade sails over the playground, at Villawood’s cost, with Council to manage the ongoing maintenance.
Logan City Council were supportive and approved the initiative, which has resulted in a wonderful outcome for the community.
Villawood Properties QLD General Manager Michael Williams says the shade sails will provide welcome shade and sun safe play for Sequana residents before what is expected to be a hot summer.
“It is important that community parks be safe and welcoming, including the provision of shade, and the team at Villawood Properties felt that shade was a vital investment for Sequana’s Central Park,” he said.
“The Central Park is a wonderful facility designed for residents of all ages to enjoy. Our junior residents love the multi-age play facilities which come complete with plenty of slides, play nets, a playhouse, nest swings, a carousel, circular jumpers and more. Now, parents have the extra comfort of knowing their children have the added sun protection.”
The playground at Sequana Park is complemented by surrounding grassy mounds for picnicking, a kick-about area, a sheltered area with BBQ facilities, and public toilets.
The footings will be installed between the 4th and 6th of September, with the shade sails to follow in late September. There will be minor disruptions to playground access during construction.
