Rail-line Lifeline at Roseworthy

Roseworthy Railway Club is a passionate little club where every contribution helps keep its wheels oiled.

Its members are dedicated engineers who like to share their hobby, bringing families to enjoy a picnic atmosphere outing and create some great memories.

The Club has been providing rides for three generations of families now, with grown kids bringing their youngsters back to build their own memories.

Recent years have been tough, though. “Touch and go”, as the club’s Barry Wilson says, due to a 150 per cent insurance cost over three years.

The Villawood community grant, however, has helped keep the club on track.

“The grant has enabled the club to purchase recyclable plastic planks and recondition five outdoor tables with weather-proof tops, as well as have the table frames dipped in galvanised dip for longevity,” says Barry.

“This will give families the privacy to enjoy an outside area and a picnic while riding the trains.

“The grant also went toward purchasing lengths of steel to construct a siding for busy days that we operate.

“The donation has helped the club make long-awaited improvements. The rising cost of insurance, two-thirds our operating costs, leaves little for club improvements.”

The upshot: the rail line lifeline helps the club keep families its number one priority. And that’s a great
outcome.
