Insight into a Developer’s World for Kapunda Kids
Building new communities is a fascinating and complex exercise but it can seem a little mysterious to many people. Under a partnership struck by Villawood Properties and its William Lakes community with Kapunda High School, students will get an exclusive insight into how new towns are created.
They’ll learn there’s a lot more to things than just moving dirt around and dropping some pipes and concrete under a work experience deal that will bring students face to face with design and construction disciplines across the full gamut of residential housing development.
Marketing and sales manager Craig Markham and Senior Development Manager Ben Moore recently visited Kapunda High, telling Year 9 and 10 students about the careers involved in building a new town, including architecture, planning, many trade positions, and eco system planning, to name a few.
Villawood is looking to show the students the diverse career paths they might be one day be interested in pursuing. Obvious pathways are civil contracting and various trades – carpenters, electricians, plumbers and all the physical building contractors.
Then there’s town planning, architecture, engineering, law, media, advertising, marketing and plenty more that goes into delivering a new community. Villawood also deals closely with landscapers, environmental and energy experts, accountants, administrators, community development officers, even artists and sculptors.
Kapunda High’s Assistant Principal Flexible Pathways Jason Keep said the school had “an exciting partnership with William Lakes which will provide many opportunities for students in the years to come as the partnership grows”.
