Good Home Tradie for a Day
At 12 years old, Jade just might be South Australia’s youngest tradie in training. With big dreams and a keen eye for design, the Adelaide tween jumped at the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a tradie as part of the Good Home Project. Jade wasted no time swapping her sneakers for steelcaps and a tool belt as she stepped on to the construction site on Thursday. “I wanted to try something new,” she said. “It’s harder to do than I thought.” The Year 7 Le Fevre High School student spent the day exploring the Oakden Rise charity build and learning the tricks of the trade from tradie teachers, including plumber Jason Anderson from EPS Plumbing Services. The home will be auctioned on November 8 to raise funds for children’s charities, as part of the Good Home Project, which is being spearheaded by The Advertiser Foundation’s Kids’ Appeal. Among those charities is Kick Start for Kids, which helps disadvantaged schoolchildren by providing breakfast and lunch programs, mentoring programs and school holiday care. For Jade, who has been part of the charity’s youth program for two years, it’s a cause close to her heart. Together with Villawood and Weeks Homes, which donated the house and land package, the campaign is the first major initiative of the Kids’ Appeal.
