Da Vinci Sets a New Health Code For Bendigo
The brilliance of Renaissance genius Leonardo da Vinci is being re-imagined in a stunning new surgical robot which has assumed pride of place, and purpose, at Bendigo’s St John of God Hospital.
The da Vinci Xi robot will enhance the hospital’s capabilities across numerous cancer surgeries, including prostate, stomach, pancreatic, liver, colorectal, head and neck, and lung.
The Villawood Foundation is delighted to have been able to contribute $30K toward the technology, which will be available for St John of God private patients, and also public patients via Bendigo Health.
Surgical experts have described the da Vinci Xi as a game-changer for cancer operations, providing surgeons with a level of accuracy not possible beforehand. The robot will also negate the burden facing many cancer patients in the Bendigo region who need to travel to Melbourne for treatment.
St John of God says the da Vinci Xi will be a vital tool in training the next generation of surgeons, making Bendigo a magnet for top surgical talent. It believes it will assist in building a brighter future for health care in the region; one where the best and brightest will want to come, learn and stay.
