Alastair Sprints to $150K in Cancer Run
Runner Alastair Evans has raised a magnificent $150K – and still counting – following his long-distance road haul from Melbourne to Echuca in June,
The fund-raising run, dubbed The Positive Journey, was dedicated to his mother Sally, who died in 2016 from the blood cancer myeloma.
The money is going to the Snowdome Foundation and a pioneering CAR T-Cell therapy trial for myeloma patients. And donations are still pouring in.
“Myeloma is currently incurable, making research into new treatments so critical,” says Alastair.
“Nearly 2500 Australians are diagnosed with myeloma each year, and this is expected to increase by nearly 30 per cent over the next 10 years. New advances in immunotherapy such as CAR-T Cell therapy offer real hope for the future.”
Villawood was one of numerous sponsors, family and friends to help Alastair on his bone-jarring four-day marathon.
“It would have made Mum so happy to see the positivity that surrounded me,” Alastair says. “She filled her days with positivity and inspired others to do the same.
“Mum would be so proud to know that together we raised over $150,000 to fund research that one day may mean other families will not lose a loved one as my family did.”
