Dry July Winners Four Times Straight
Villawood Properties’ Rory Costelloe has emerged the highest individual fund-raiser in this year’s Dry July cancer fund-raiser – for the fourth time running.
Rory posted a tally of $42,319, as part of AFL legend Billy Brownless’ Billy’s Frothy Fund’s team total of $68,081 – also a four-time successive winner.
During the final stages of the campaign, he matched donors’ contributions dollar for dollar.
The result took the team’s total over the last four years up to $343,000 – a magnificent effort by so many people to help cancer patients and their families.
The funds will go to Barwon Health’s Andrew Love Cancer Centre.
Mr Costelloe thanked Dry July donors who he said had “dug deep in tough times” to ease the plight of cancer victims and their families.
“It’s been a magnificent effort by so many people,” he said.
“I’ve been doing Dry July in memory of my brother Justin, who succumbed to cancer five years ago, as well as my niece who is bravely battling cancer now. And, of course, to help people and families hit by cancer.
“I received tremendous support from friends across Geelong and Bendigo, from our Villawood family and so many others as well.
“Many of these people have also been touched in some way by cancer, so I truly appreciate their efforts in this great cause.”
