Villawood Foundation Gives Back to Geelong
Jungle trekkers, their rallying ‘war cries’ and New Guinea Highland villagers brought an air of adventure to the latest round of Villawood Foundation community grants at Mount Duneed’s Club Armstrong.
Ambassador Jacqui Felgate officiated as a raft of Geelong grassroots groups received Foundation support for activities ranging from toy libraries to calisthenics, little athletics to dancing.
Video footage of hikers from Geelong Youth Engagement’s latest Kokoda trek across 96km of rugged Owen Stanley Ranges jungle spelled out how the foundation’s support helps strengthen, nurture and grow social assets in our community.
Backed by testimony from several young adventurers, as well as Villawood’s Rory Costelloe who completed the trek, the intrepid storyline highlighted the value of grassroots support for community causes.
The Villawood Foundation provides more than $3.4 million annually to community causes across the developer’s projects. Most recipients are small bodies that would otherwise receive no financial support, a point made repeatedly during the Armstrong meet.
Latest Foundation recipients who met up at Armstrong included:
- Grovedale Toy Library
- Lara Little Athletics
- Mirripoa Primary School
- Freshwater Creek Fire Brigade
- Geelong Dance Movement
- Greater Geelong Nepalese Community Group
- Westcoast Calisthenics Club Masters Team
- Armstrong Creek Boomerang Bags
- Geelong Baptist College
- Little Teapot Café & Play
- North Geelong Warriors Football Club
- Lara Lake Community Preschool
- Geelong Little Athletics
- Lara Senior Girl Guides
The Foundation grants were an important way of giving back to Geelong, which hosts several Villawood communities, including Armstrong at Mount Duneed and Coridale at Lara.
The Foundation grants are about helping grow Geelong’s bank of community goodwill and care. They’re part of an ongoing program through our Villawood Foundation, which helps local groups big and small to grow their membership and activities.
