$250M Baya to deliver 224 homes, 700 jobs, $20K for care workers

Emergency staff, nurses, teachers and other care workers will receive a special $20K package at Villawood Properties’ new $250M Baya community at Southern Redland Bay.

Redlands MP Rebecca Young, Assistant Minister to the Deputy Premier and Assistant Minister for Planning, today turned the first sod to start earthworks on the Baya project, which will inject a sorely-needed 224 premium-value homes into the highly-sought Redlands Coast.

Villawood’s Care Worker Support Program will provide $20K to carers to help them into the housing market.

The program has assisted more than 400 care workers across the country to date, at a cost of $7.8 million, and drawn state and national awards from the Urban Development Institute of Australia.

Overlooking Moreton Bay, Baya will feature a neighbourhood recreation park, linear park and extensive green space. It will be delivered over seven stages with lots ranging from 358sqm to 1184sqm.

Registrations of interest are now open for Stage 1 home sites starting from $489,900.

Villawood Properties CEO Alan Miller says the project – set in a scenic bayside location between Brisbane and the Gold Coast – is highly sought after with more than 1000 people already registering their interest in just four weeks.

“Baya is a rare lifestyle opportunity for young families, upgrade purchasers or astute first home buyers seeking convenient access to both Brisbane and the Gold Coast set on the doorstep of Moreton Bay,” Mr Miller said.

“Importantly the project will deliver critically needed housing to Southeast Queensland and the Redland Bay area, generating upwards of 700 local jobs over the course of civil construction and home construction.”

Mr Miller said the Villawood’s care worker program aims to assist essential care worker buyers – including emergency staff, nurses, teachers, police, personal carers and others – with a $20K saving on eligible lots.

“Care workers are the backbone of our community, but many find it difficult to access the housing market within close proximity to work,” he said.

“To be able to help these buyers into a new home in a well-located community, it is something we’re very proud to be doing.”

With major local investments such as the new Scenic Shores State School and the $300 million expansion of Redland Hospital, the region is set to welcome more healthcare and support workers — and Villawood’s Care Worker Support Program is here to support those who care for our community.

Villawood’s Queensland General Manager Michael Williams said the Baya masterplan has been designed with a central 1.8-ha environmental corridor running through the spine of the project, bounded by a recreation park, linear park and more than a hectare of additional green space.

“There will be an extensive network of walking tracks and cycleways weaving through the development, and open space connecting residents to new parks, a proposed town centre and foreshore in the broader Southern Redland Bay area,” Mr Williams said.

“Directly to the west is the 1000-ha Bayview Conservation Area, featuring 60 km of bushwalking and mountain bike tracks and bridle trails, further underscoring Baya’s ‘bay and adventure’- inspired nametag.”

Mr Williams said Baya is being delivered in line with Villawood’s commitment to creating connected and active communities with an emphasis on expansive public open space for future residents to enjoy.

The Baya development will be the award-winning Villawood Properties’ first project in Redland Bay and further enhances the company’s profile in the Queensland greenfield land market.

It is the developer’s seventh community in Southeast Queensland and comes on the back of the sellout success of its The Arbour at Burleigh Heads, Helensvale’s master-planned community The Surrounds and national UDIA winner Montego Hills at Kingsholme.

Villawood also recently successfully launched a 700-lot community in Gleneagle, bordering the Beaudesert township and already into its fourth stage of construction.
