$20M St Columba College Expansion
St Columba College at Andrews Farm has formally opened its new $20 million expansion.
The brand-new, state-of-the-art secondary school building includes 12 new classrooms, outdoor learning areas, a Wellbeing Hub and a dedicated Diverse Learning Centre.
In addition, existing Middle School facilities have been refurbished, including covered sports courts and a dedicated Performing Arts Theatre.
“This expansion will provide exciting new facilities, giving our students the spaces and resources they need to thrive in their learning. The expansion will also help us build the student cohort beyond the existing 1450, and deliver on the next phase of our exciting Master Plan.”
An ecumenical initiative of then Archbishops Ian George and Leonard Faulkner, St Columba opened as co-educational College in 1997 with 207 students. Two years later, it received approval to move into secondary education, and it now welcomes students from Reception to Year 12.
As it is the only joint Anglican/Catholic school in Australia, the Anglican Archbishop of Adelaide, Geoffrey Smith, and the Catholic Archbishop of Adelaide, Patrick O’Regan DD, jointly unveiled the commemorative plaque.
“The college exists because of the vision of two Archbishops nearly 30 years ago, so it is only right that two Archbishops helped launch an important new phase for us,” said Principal Darren Pitt.
Both the Minister for Education, Blair Boyer, and the Minister of Planning, Nick Champion, were on hand to officially open the new redevelopment, which equips students in Adelaide’s north with state-of-the-art learning facilities.
