$20m Kimberley Rail Bridge to Help Deliver 2200 Homes

Construction has started on a $20 million rail flyover Villawood is building at its Kimberley community in Sunbury which will deliver access 2200 new housing lots in Melbourne’s booming northwest growth corridor.

The bridge, on Balbethan Drive, will provide many benefits for Kimberley and its residents but also for the wider Sunbury community.

These include:

  • High-quality affordable housing of 2200 lots
  • Access to three new schools
  • Access to sporting facilities
  • – Access to a resort-style Residents’ Club
  • Access to childcare and other community facilities
  • Access to a large regional park
  • Access to a section of Jackson Creek not open to the public for 100 years

Sunbury MP Josh Bull, who inspected the works with Villawood CEO Alan Miller, described the railway bridge as vital to Sunbury’s future.

“This is an exciting milestone for a significant piece of infrastructure that will be warmly welcomed by the ever-growing and developing Sunbury community,” he said.

“In my role as Parliamentary Secretary for Transport, and Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure Delivery, I understand just how important these projects are, opening up new opportunities for residents in these areas, and for those looking to start their next chapter in Sunbury in the future.”

Villawood is undertaking the bridge’s construction on behalf of Hume City Council together with authorities including VicTrack, Metro and V/Line.

Mr Miller said: “This bridge will help the timely delivery of Kimberley’s housing supply to Melbourne’s popular new northwest growth corridor.

“Kimberley will create not just sorely needed homes for families but also hundreds of jobs. It will inject many millions of dollars into the local business community over the next decade and more.

“Villawood has been an important player in the Sunbury community for many years. This project, with its schools, parks and sports grounds and much more, will set the town up for a robust community-focussed future for many more years.”
