Hilltop Design Challenge Open at Redstone
Villawood Properties has thrown open a prime 20-hectare Sunbury hilltop site to tertiary students to design an innovative multi-use tourist attraction – with a prize pool of $35,000 for the most creative ideas.
Sited above Villawood’s Redstone community, with sweeping views to Melbourne and the Macedon Ranges, the competition has attracted Monash University, RMIT and the University of Melbourne students.
The Hilltop Challenge is seeking a ground-breaking precinct for multiple commercial and community uses. Teams have their work cut out for them, tackling pre-requisites including tourism, transport, arts, education, sustainability and historical significance.
The hilltop is central to the 2500-lot Redstone and Villawood is looking to the brightest young minds in the game to come up with something right out of the box – something that makes not just Melbourne but the rest of Australia and overseas stand up and take notice.
Existing projects have been offered as inspiration, among them: Byron Bay’s The Farm, the Mornington Peninsula’s Jackalope vineyard, Melbourne Museum’s River Connections Learning Lab, the world-renowned Eastern Island Eco Lodge, The Royal Flying Doctor Museum in Dubbo and Kangaroo Island’s Southern Ocean Lodge
