House for Life: Smash $1.489m Result at The Surrounds

We’re delighted to see the House for Life charity home auction at our Queensland community The Surrounds raise a record-breaking $1,489,000 with Plantation Homes.

The money will all be going to directly caring for more than 2000 tiny patients in the Mater Mothers’ Neonatal Critical Care Unit each year. The NCCU is the largest neonatal critical care unit in Australia.

The Villawood-Plantation collaboration saw the stunning contemporary two-storey Helensvale home sold under the hammer in a no-reserve auction that drew 13 registered bidders on site at the Helensvale property.

But it was a Hervey Bay family bidding by phone who successfully bought the home – after a marathon 40-bid contest that started at $600,000.

“I could hear the commotion, the clapping at every stage,” the winning bidder, who wished to remain anonymous, told media. “We would have dearly liked to have been there but we are both doctors and I was working.

“We love the location and the amenities and the cause it was for was a big incentive. I have been telling our kids about the home and the reason behind the charity work and what the hospital does.

“We make a donation to charity every year of 2.5 per cent of our earnings. It can be to anybody who is needy irrespective of their background and religious beliefs and this was in the back of my mind as we were bidding.”

The Forest Court home – a 45-square Majestic 45 by plantation Homes – features four bedrooms, three bathrooms, two powder rooms, a terrace, pool and two-car garage. Its foyer hosts a grand central staircase and its the high ceilings, marble floors, Caesarstone benchtops and large butler’s pantry imbue the home with a luxurious ambience.

A massive free family fun day drew before a crowd of more than 500 to the auction with snow cones, fairy floss, live music, face painting, free coffee and sausage sizzle, rides and games.

The auction was also a poignant affair for Brisbane Lions assistant coach Jed Adcock and wife Amber Ward, House for Life ambassadors who promoted the auction after both their sons were born prematurely and spent time in intensive care.

Villawood is presently constructing another charity home with Henley at its Coridale community in Lara, Victoria, which it will put to a no-reserve auction on Good Friday 2023 with all proceeds going to Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital.
