SITE INFORMATION

The site consists of 19.32ha of hilltop land in Sunbury within Villawood’s Redstone community.
You can learn more about Redstone here and you may find the interactive map useful.

Visitors benefit from significant 360-degree views;
– towards Melbourne CBD,
– of aircraft arrivals/departures of Melbourne Airport,
– across the escarpment of Sunbury, and
– towards Macedon Ranges.

Existing and future connectivity to Jacksons Creek 1000+ha regional parkland
and the 20,000 sq.m future town centre is provided and should be considered.

SITE REQUIREMENTS

The site parameters are broad which provides ample room for creativity. Students are asked to address the following high level land uses and criteria:

TRANSPORT
Future public transport bus networks are proposed in the
Sunbury South PSP close to the site. What is your vision for public transport?

TOURISM
The site is to be a destination, drawing visitors from further afield.

COMMUNITY
It must support and enhance the local community.

ARTS
Encourage and integrate art in the site

EDUCATION
A place where people can learn something new.

SUSTAINABILITY
Aim for smallest ongoing environmental footprint.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Consider both indigenous and colonial history.

COMMERCIALITY
The use must be commercially viable for operation.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

SUBMISSION 1 – DUE 9AM 1st MAY 2023

Students are encouraged to work in groups to provide an initial submission.
The submission will need to include three parts; a written section, a site plan and a mood/materials board.


PART 1 – WRITTEN
The written section to include approximately 200 words for each of the 8 site requirements (below & detailed above) explaining the vision and uses of the site.

PART 2 – PLAN
The Plan is to be a site plan clearly outlining uses and vision for the site.

FORMAT & SUBMITTING
To be supplied in a pdf format. Submission form will be located on this page. You will be notified by email when you can submit. Submissions open 9am 1st May 2023.


SUBMISSION 2 – FINAL SUBMISSION

DUE 9AM MONDAY 26TH JUNE 2023

Final submissions are due by 9am Monday 26th June 2023. Entries must include a pdf presentation responding to the eight site requirements as listed.  A detailed site plan and any other plans that communicates the vision for the site in a succinct manner and artist impressions/3D renders of the design are required.

Final submissions will be reviewed based on creativity, originality and accuracy to the site requirements by a panel of Villawood team members and shortlisted as finalists. These finalists will be invited to present to the judging panel of industry leaders who will then select top 3 designs to be awarded prizes.

SHORTLISTED FINALISTS

Shortlisted finalists will need to present their final submission during business hours 24th July – 28th July. The presentation time will be specified by Villawood.

A maximum 30 minute in-person presentation to judging panel and Villawood. Presentations must cover the 8 site requirements, include site plans and 3D artist impressions for each of the concepts.

  • Short term, premium, accommodation styles are encouraged
  • Innovative passive and recreational spaces which engage visitors
  • Overall creating Redstone Hill as a destination place attracting visitors across Victoria.
  • Connections to Jacksons Creek regional parkland.
  • Farm to table gastronomic experiences.
  • The history of the land use including vineyard
