Villawood's Letters Call Out Domestic Violence

THE latest arrangement of Villawood Properties’ giant letters in Highton has shown its support for a campaign against family violence.

The “call it out” message in the Wandana estate has been set up to coincide with the state government’s ‘Respect Women: Call it out’ campaign.

The campaign encourages Victorian men to intervene and call out sexism and gender inequality – factors which have been identified as the main drivers of family violence in our community.

“Our Wandana letters are meant to help connect the community on important issues and we hope our ‘call it out’ message will do just that,” Villawood Properties chief executive officer Phil Hanna said.

“Recent assaults on women have highlighted concerns by many people in the community about attitudes and behaviour toward women. Recent behaviour by high-profile figures have highlighted serious shortcomings by key role models in the community.

“This message at Wandana is aimed at encouraging awareness and discussion of these important issues. Families, women and children especially, need to be safe from violence.”

“It’s a conversation that needs to be had and a message we believe in.”

The giant corten steel letters are seen by tens of thousands of motorists travelling along the Geelong Ring Road each day.

Previous arrangements of the letters have highlighted community issues such as road safety, marriage equality and respect, as well as the efforts of the Geelong Cats and sports stars such as Gary Ablett and Cadel Evans.
