A Magical Time Of Year

It might have taken 40 years, yet the Villawood Gawler Christmas Parade is back, larger than life, and bringing an early Yuletide cheer to the town.

The parade on Saturday 2nd December featured the great man in red, Santa Claus, singers, dancers, musicians, families, community groups and kids galore in a Christmas extravaganza of sound, colour and laughter.

All species of floats, vintage cars, trucks and tractors, emergency vehicles, girl guides, Gawler Show Society, retailers, service groups, Highland pipers, nativity scenes, clowns, a sea of red, green and glitter – even an appearance by The Grinch – set the evening alight as the parade made its way through town to a Riverbank Aussie Christmas display.

All up, 40 parade entries and a crowd of 5,000 with kids chanting “Santa Claus” as he glided past on an automated sleigh.

Light MP Tony Piccolo was instrumental in getting the Villawood-sponsored event off the ground, marshalling a raft of stakeholders and organisers together months in advance.

“It was a sheer joy to see so many smiling little faces … cheering as Santa Claus came closer,” he said.

“It was great to be able to add to the Christmas spirit, in what is a difficult time in other parts of the world. Events like this only happen because a lot or people and organisations make a contribution to it.”

Villawood was delighted to help revive the event with its sponsorship. Christmas is an important time of the year and we wanted to ensure Gawler could really rev up a festive spirit as a community – with old Saint Nick and sleigh bells, carols and candy canes, and swags of fun.

The hundreds of smiles lighting up faces, big and small alike, showed the Gawler Christmas Parade did exactly that.
